My first link love post of 2018 – yay! Did you make New Year’s resolutions? Usually we do, but this year we didn’t. Oh well, usually I’m also sharing these links on the second Friday of the month in a Friday Link Love, but I was busy hosting a birthday party for a teenager yesterday. […]
Dear followers and friends! It’s already the third day of the new year and I haven’t blogged for a while now. We spent the last two and a half weeks in Germany and it’s been a busy time as always. Visiting home is wonderful and fun, but at times slightly too busy. Trying to see everyone […]
Dieser Post ist im Rahmen der Blogparade “Mein Weihnachten in…” von den Expatmamas entstanden. Hüpft mal rüber und lest die anderen interessanten Artikel aus Kanada, China, Singapur und Brasilien. This post is part of the blog parade “My Christmas in…” of the “Expatmamas”. Check it out and read some other interesting articles about Christmas in […]
In my monthly link love I’m sharing articles, pictures, books and videos I’ve clipped during the last month. We were on vacation over Thanksgiving and I was busy doing nothing. That’s why this December Link Love is rather short. If you have a book or and interesting article you want to share, please comment! Thank […]
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…. and for a German this time is especially shaped by Weihnachtsmärkte (Christmas markets). A Christmas market is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent and I’m sure that almost every single German citizen visits at least one each year. The History […]
November is a busy time of the year. And if you’re following my blog, you know that I’m busy getting ready for visitors and two upcoming trips. That’s why I really don’t want to give the impression that I’m complaining in any way 😉 My to-do list is long and I should probably drop some of […]
Three Word Thursday #25 I’m linking up with Amanda’s Running with Spoons for “Thinking Out loud” on Thursdays. I noticed that since I’ve started working, I’m much more focused and disciplined in general. I’m more tired, but I get stuff done. I make better plans and stick to them, because even though I’m leaving the […]
Today was a beautiful Sunday with sleeping in, family breakfast, a bike ride with my guy, decluttering the garage, baking a Mohn-Streuselkuchen (poppy seed crumble cake) and some shopping. I realized that it’s only seven more weeks to Christmas! And we’re going to Germany for Weihnachten and I’m very much looking forward to it. I […]
Three Word Thursday #24 Yesterday I found an interesting facebook post in a group of “Germans in San Francisco and the Bay Area”. Someone posted the question: “Are here any Germans who came to came “for ever” but eventually moved back home anyway? Which reasons have convinced you in the end? My husband and I […]
Repatriation means the return of someone to their own country. As part of my series “Repatriate Interviews” I talked to Tina Busch, a German writer, translator and mother of two. After living the expat life in the US for several years, she her family moved back to Germany last year. Now the time of repatriation […]
Words of the day
Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
