November is a busy time of the year. And if you’re following my blog, you know that I’m busy getting ready for visitors and two upcoming trips. That’s why I really don’t want to give the impression that I’m complaining in any way 😉 My to-do list is long and I should probably drop some of […]
Three Word Thursday #25 I’m linking up with Amanda’s Running with Spoons for “Thinking Out loud” on Thursdays. I noticed that since I’ve started working, I’m much more focused and disciplined in general. I’m more tired, but I get stuff done. I make better plans and stick to them, because even though I’m leaving the […]
Today was a beautiful Sunday with sleeping in, family breakfast, a bike ride with my guy, decluttering the garage, baking a Mohn-Streuselkuchen (poppy seed crumble cake) and some shopping. I realized that it’s only seven more weeks to Christmas! And we’re going to Germany for Weihnachten and I’m very much looking forward to it. I […]
Three Word Thursday #24 Yesterday I found an interesting facebook post in a group of “Germans in San Francisco and the Bay Area”. Someone posted the question: “Are here any Germans who came to came “for ever” but eventually moved back home anyway? Which reasons have convinced you in the end? My husband and I […]
Repatriation means the return of someone to their own country. As part of my series “Repatriate Interviews” I talked to Tina Busch, a German writer, translator and mother of two. After living the expat life in the US for several years, she her family moved back to Germany last year. Now the time of repatriation […]
It’s late on Friday, but I still like to share my monthly Friday Link Love with you. Here are some articles, and tweets that I’ve clipped over the last weeks as well as some videos. Articles I’d like to share my friend’s article about workplace diversity on D!gitalist Magazine. In the global world of today, this […]
I can’t believe it’s already September, the ninth month of the year! So here’s my September Link Love. Teaching and parenting First of all I want to share some link love with my new employer, the German International School of Silicon Valley. On Tuesday I started to work there as a part-time substitute teacher for […]
Speaking German is not always easy. Have you been living abroad for some time? Do you have children? Do your children go to public schools and not to a German private school? Your children don’t speak enough German and make grammar errors more frequently? Are you looking for new ideas how to improve your children’s […]
Just a random post because it is National Bratwurst Day. Yes, that’s right. I wouldn’t have known, but Huffington Post keeps me posted about important stuff like that 😉 Celebrate National Bratwurst Day. I’ve actually planned pasta for the family’s dinner, but I will definitely grill these sausages from Costco tonight too.
After four Friday Link Loves in June and July I decided that it is more likely to write this kind of post only once a month. So this is the first monthly edition of the Friday Link Love. Today I want to share a few stories, products, blogs and audibles with you. This time lots of […]
Words of the day
Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risk, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
