Germans and Americans are different, just as Chinese and Argentinians or Indians and Mozambicans. As a German expat living in the US I’m always interested in cultural differences between our two nations. I already wrote about it in my post “pineapple vs....
German-American Day Today the National German-American Day is observed in the US. This German-American heritage holiday commemorates the 13 German Mennonite families from Krefeld who landed in Philadelphia. These families founded Germantown, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1683. The settlement was...
After visiting your home country… you might feel it: The re-entry blues. I wrote about this phenomenon back in March and now I’m dealing with it again. Every. Single. Time. I come back from Germany, it seems to get me....
Plan ahead. Book your flights well in advance. Different people have different strategies though. I personally prefer to book my flights at least three months in advance since we have to travel in the busy summertime. But it is definitely...
I don’t even know what the title of this blogpost is gonna be yet, but I feel I have to write my thoughts down this morning to get some clarity. Sometimes, living in the Silicon Valley really sucks for me....

it is to go on when
you don’t have the strength.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 12 years in the crazy world of the Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
