I found this linkup on theinbetweenismine and I’d love to join Amanda at Running with Spoons in sharing my random thoughts on a Thursday. I’ve been irregularly posting my “Three Word Thursday” but maybe I can alternate between the two post formats. […]
I can’t believe that this category of my blog is already two years old! I was looking for writing clues back then and saw similar categories on other blogs. There was Six Word Saturday, Five Word Friday and so on. I settled on Three Word Thursday. It’s basically just random thoughts that I’m having on a random Thursday and if I find the time to write them down, you can read them here. What are you thinking? I’d love to read your random thoughts in the comments.
Bake a bread! You know what every German replies when asked “What do you miss about Germany?” “The bread!” (and probably “Brötchen”, too) That’s why I want to share my favorite bread recipe with you. It’s super easy, delicious and […]
Best of January – I haven’t really been consistent with my Three Word Thursdays, but I vow to improve. It is February and I’m glad that January 2017 is over. It was the worst January of the decade and we all know […]
The last day…. of Barack Obama’s presidency is today. I’m so sad. This country has become my second home and even though I don’t love everything about the US (neither do I about Germany), this president and his family has become a […]
Articles about Repatriation The topic of repatriating is very close to my heart since we are actively thinking about moving back to Germany. But what is the best way to do it? So, the last couple weeks I’ve been researching, reading and writing about […]
Collaboration with Expatmamas A few weeks ago I got a “new like” on one of my posts on facebook. Jonna from “Expatmamas” found my blog and since then we started connecting. I joined her facebook group and found other German women living […]
An acrostic poem Telling each other what we’re thankful for is something that we started in our first year in the US. It’s implemented in preschools and schools and we like this custom. It is important to talk about all […]
Early birthday celebrations This is gonna be a short post. I’m exhausted from the last couple days and I need to take a break from all the news and social media. I felt paralyzed all day yesterday and spend too […]
German-American Day Today the National German-American Day is observed in the US. This German-American heritage holiday commemorates the 13 German Mennonite families from Krefeld who landed in Philadelphia. These families founded Germantown, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1683. The settlement was […]
Words of the day
Courage isn’t having
the strength to go on –
it is to go on when
you don’t have the strength.

Hi! Hallo!
I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 16 years in the crazy world of the Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
