My weekly ramble
Glass Beach, Fort Bragg The second last stop on our road trip in June was this famous beach in Northern California. According to Wikipedia, Glass Beach is part of the Mac Kerricher State Park, but apparently it is also part...

Fern Canyon, Humboldt County My family and I visited this magical place in June while doing a road trip through Northern California and Oregon. We camped in Patricks Point State Park, about 25 miles south of the canyon and I rode...
Garfield Peak Trail, Crater Lake I can’t believe that the summer is almost over. Nine weeks full of fun adventures have flown by way too fast. I’ve been busy visiting family and friends and have been too lazy with the...
Last Sunday I flew from San Jose, California to Düsseldorf, Germany and had a layover in Heathrow. Usually I don’t really pay much attention to airport terminal design, but despite all bad predictions, we managed to get our connection to...
Water towers in Mendocino We just got back from a wonderful road trip to Northern California and Oregon, which I will probably tell you more about in the next couple weeks. On our last day we checked out Glass Beach...
A walk along 4-mile beach I have to catch up. On Father’s Day we made a trip to Santa Cruz. First we had breakfast at “Café Brasil” on Mission Street. Its’ rated the #5 place for breakfast & brunch in the area....
I saw the challenge and this photograph came to my mind immediately. I took this shot more than 5 years ago in La Jolla, California, a beautiful and also trendy and very posh community of North San Diego. In the late...

John Nicholas Trail Again my ramble was not a walk and talk, but a ride & talk. In fact, it was my first mountain bike ride ever. I can hardly believe that’s true, but it is. I’ve been a recreational cyclist...
clouds and blossoms I just wanted to share something beautiful on this plain, busy and rather cloudy Thursday. Since I’ve been back in California we had the most glorious weather for February. Temperatures up to 80 ℉ (almost 27 ℃) are pretty rare...

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 16 years in the crazy world of the Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
