If you have ever been to California, you hopefully have seen the most beautiful stretch of Highway 1 between Carmel-by-the-sea and Cambria. And if you haven’t been to the Golden State yet, make sure you won’t miss this part, because it is the most amazing coastline. Do it on a sunny day because clouds will spoil the beauty of this landscape.
You need to take time to drive down Hwy 1, you want to stop at all the vista points and you want to take lots of pictures! That will make you yearn for a coffee or a bite to eat and you definitely have to stop for food in Big Sur since there are some gorgeous places to satisfy your cravings.
Here are my favorite 3 places to stop for food or a glass of wine in Big Sur:My favorite stop for Coffee is the “Loma Vista Big Sur Bakery & Restaurant“. They have a great coffee selection, homemade baked goods, a great variety of food and their own cookbook.
Driving about 4 miles south, also on the oceanside of Highway 1, you’ll get to Nepenthe, a magic location in Big Sur. This is an absolute must stop and see, even if you’re not hungry at all. The “Phoenix Shop” has a wonderful variety of little things from jewelry, stationary, books, bags and many more, everyone will find something! The Café Kevah menu focuses on the freshest ingredients carefully prepared, gourmet coffees, and home made baked goods. Sitting on the terrace of the Nepenthe restaurant, “enjoying a glass of wine, an Ambrosia Burger, or one of our exceptional homemade desserts is a quintessential California experience”. Expect a long wait, this place is well known and always busy, especially on the weekends. Put yourself on the list, get a drink at the bar and sit on the stone steps. Or walk around and enjoy the gorgeous views even before enjoying your food.
We usually drive back north, after time at Andrew Molera State beach or a hike in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. For the sunset I love to make another stop at Rocky Point Restaurant. The view in the evening sun, paired with a glass of wine are unbeatable. Check it out.
This post is a part of a series called NaBloPoMo 2016 hosted by BlogHer. NaBloPoMo is short for National Blog Posting Month and it challenges writers and creatives to post on their blogs once a day (at least) for the month of November. You can find all my posts on my blogher page, too. Stay tuned, tomorrow I’ll post another weekly ramble.
