Speaking German is not always easy. Have you been living abroad for some time? Do you have children? Do your children go to public schools and not to a German private school? Your children don’t speak enough German and make […]
Back to school and other stuff. Thinking out loud #2 Last week I participated in this linkup from Amanda’s running with spoons for the first time. I thought it might be weird to have another post format for Thursdays, but I […]
I found this linkup on theinbetweenismine and I’d love to join Amanda at Running with Spoons in sharing my random thoughts on a Thursday. I’ve been irregularly posting my “Three Word Thursday” but maybe I can alternate between the two post formats. […]
Just a random post because it is National Bratwurst Day. Yes, that’s right. I wouldn’t have known, but Huffington Post keeps me posted about important stuff like that 😉 Celebrate National Bratwurst Day. I’ve actually planned pasta for the family’s […]

Summer in California Here are my summer favorites. It’s been a good summer so far. The first summer since 2013 that we didn’t travel to Germany for the summer break. My plan was to enjoy the endless Californian summer to […]
Words of the day
Courage isn’t having
the strength to go on –
it is to go on when
you don’t have the strength.

Hi! Hallo!
I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 16 years in the crazy world of the Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
