This year is almost over and I really wanted to write one last blogpost.
I haven’t written a lot in the last seven months. It’s been a very busy year and I just didn’t take the time to write.
I want to change that next year. In Germany, 2019 has already started. But before looking forward to starting a new, fresh year, I wanted to briefly look back on 2018.
It wasn’t necessarily one of our happiest years. It was rather characterized by a lot of decisions, work and life-changing actions.
- I was finally able to decide that it is best for our family to stay in California, at least until our girls will have graduated from High School. I’ve been working on accepting this decision ever since. Sometimes it works, sometimes I still struggle with regret.
- I became a contributor for Heimat Abroad and wrote some articles for the magazine and the website.
- We bought a house in San José, in very close proximity of our old neighborhood.
- Our girls graduated from Elementary and Middle School.
- We packed our old house and renovated the new one. We painted almost every single wall ourselves.
- My principal did not want to hire me again, but my wonderful Head of Elementary went out on a limb to offer me another position and I’ve been teaching German Language Support with wonderful students and teachers.
- We spent five weeks in Europe, mostly in Germany, but my husband and I were very fortunate to spend some wonderful days in Stockholm with our old friend Tobias and his family.
- Our girls started Middle and High School.
- We remodeled our kitchen and I built every single of the 28 drawers myself.
- Due to hip and back problems, I haven’t been able to run or ride for the last four months.
- I went to New York and visited the “Ich bin Expat Fair”.
- We had a family addition: Our female dog Thula is a lovely hound/shepherd mix.
In the new year, I’m planning to do these things:
- Do my exercises, Yoga and meditation regularly and get back in shape.
- At least do one sprint triathlon.
- Write something at least two times/months.
- Start a new Instagram account “Cöllefornia”.
- Finish a children’s book.
- Plan and take a 2-week family trip.
- Go skiing at least three times.
- Organize a Karnevals-Party.
- Spend more quality time with my family.
- Go out on a date with my husband more often.
- Spend more time with the people who make me happy.
- Organize my house.
- Visit friends in Europe.
- Keep a journal.
- Work on my negative thinking.
- Do less. 😉
I wish you all a wonderful, happy, productive, satisfying and healthy New Year 2019!
Thanks for reading my blog, I’m determined to share more writing with you.
Your Cöllefornia,
Kathrin
