Friday Link Love #2
This is my second weekly roundup and I loved collecting all the content for it. While I was having this post in mind all week, I probably even read more attentively. And I clipped like a maniac. Do you know what clipping is?
Websites & Apps
Well, I’ve started using Evernote in May and it is fabulous! You can clip anything on the web that you like or that you don’t have time to read right away, but might want to read later. I started drafting my posts on Evernote and since I also installed the Evernote app, I can type any idea that comes to my mind in my phone and later have access to my notes on the computer. It is also fantastic for list making 🙂
Today I’ll drive up to El Dorado National Forest with my friend. We will pick up our girls from their camp tomorrow and we decided to do a hike in the mountains, to camp the night and to pick them up in the morning. We will hopefully get a campsite right next to their camp, so we even might hear them at night, fun! While I was looking for good hikes in this area, I found this fabulous website that offers loads of information about exploring California. Based on the information that CalEXPLORnia offers, I decides that we’ll hike in the area of Wrights Lake.
On Wednesday I started working my new job and it’s been great. Part of my work is online research and I got to read through some really interesting articles I’d like to share with this Friday Link Love.
Articles
This article about 6 ways living abroad made me a worse person describes one of my biggest fears. I always wonder how much I changed. In some regard I know that I’ve become a better person, but the Silicon Valley spoils you a lot and I wonder how much I changed to my disadvantage.
Even though my kids are at sleep away camp this week, I read a couple articles about parenting. I think that’s what all parents are trying to do: raising good, self-confident children that are not entitled little brats?
Parents Who Raise “Good” Kids Do These 5 Things
How to raise kinder, less entitled kids (according to science)
While I was looking about more information about ‘entitlement’, I came across the article 3 Reasons Why People Who Feel Entitled End Up Miserable from Seth J. Gillihan Ph.D. . I really liked the last sentence of his article, that’s why I used it for my “Words of the Day” on the upper right side.
And if my kids ever go back to sleep away camp for more than a week, I will send them something from this cool list: 10 crazy things to mail your child at camp.
Podcasts
Even though I like audiobooks from audible much better, I also listen to podcasts and TedTalks pretty regularly. My friend told me about this interview with Peggy Orenstein and I highly recommend it to all parents of girls. ‘Girls & Sex’ And The Importance Of Talking About Pleasure from Fresh Air.
Gedanken tanken It provides useful knowledge and practical ideas for job and life. Anyone who wants to develop personally and achieve more success in life can get some new inspiration and motivation.
To learn more about blogging in general, I like to listen to ProBlogger, a British podcast.
Music & Movies
While working this week, I listened to the “Classical Relaxation Music” station on Pandora. You can customize each channel by clicking either 👍🏼 or 👎🏼. I love the film score of “Pride and Prejudice”.
We went to the movies with our girls to watch “Wonder Woman”. The movie didn’t impress me that much. Too much fighting for me, but a beautiful and strong leading actress Gal Gadot from Israel.
Even though its reviews are much worse than “Wonder Woman” the movie “Table 19” entertained me much more. Éloise got dumped by her boyfriend and as his sister’s maid of honor, her long-time friend. She shows up to the wedding anyway and has to sit at the “last table” with some other unwanted guests.
What were some of your highlights of last week?
I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
