My weekly ramble #27 No luck with Half Dome Yosemite National Park is one of the most beautiful places in California. It is part of my A to Z of California in “Y is for…”. And the Half Dome is probably the state’s most famous landmark. The hike up this legendary Dome is on my […]
Places in California, and things This is a new post in my series “My A to Z of California”. It seems now I finished this post, that everything important in California starts with an S. San Jose The first one of the list of places in California with a S has to be the city […]
Friday Link Love #3 Articles & Blogs A German article about your intuition: Intuition: So vertraust du deiner inneren Vorahnung 11 things NOT to do in Germany And OMG, that was weird: I clicked on the blog that I wanted to share with you, read a couple new posts and copied the URL. Then I […]
Aloha to the Valley Island Our second visit in Maui last week was kind of a coincidence. I booked flights to Kaua’i for my husband and me in February (It was his birthday surprise and I’m a pretty awesome wife!?) and with a layover in Maui the flights were just much cheaper! Just back in March I […]
Happy Easter! We spent a wonderful, cozy day today with an easter egg hunt, mimosas, FaceTiming the family in Germany, the first Warriors Play-off game and some favorite people. On Friday my friend and I went for a beautiful back country hike in Calero County Park, one of Santa Clara County’s most diverse regional parks. The 4,469 […]
It’s been a while since my last walk for the blog. Today was a great day to get out and explore the local trails. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday and our family went on a wildflower hunt. I shared a couple websites in the last weeks about the best hikes in California to see wildflowers this […]
This is another one of the many magical places in California. Añu Nuevo State Park, about 20 miles north of Santa Cruz, on Highway 1. The park draws visitors from around the world, especially between mid-December and end of March, when every year up to 10,000 elephant seals return to breed, give birth, and molt their […]
At the beginning of March I decided to go to Germany to visit my family. Getting a good flight deal last minute is a challenge. The cheapest option was to fly with “WOW Airlines”, a young airline based in Iceland. It was obvious that I just had to stop in Iceland for one night on the way back. […]
Yosemite Of course. This is one of the best spots, if not THE greatest place in the Golden State. You feel small and irrelevant when you enter this spectacular valley which is full of natural beauties. River and waterfalls, mountains and gorges, cliffs and meadows, so many trails for hikers and rock faces for climbing lovers.
A day in Solana Beach If you are traveling in Southern California or if you are in San Diego County for another reason, Solana Beach is a great alternative to some of the busier beach towns like Encinitas or Oceanside. We stayed here for 5 days and I’d like to share a perfect day in […]

Tell me, what you will do with your one wild and precious life?

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
