Winters, CA Whenever we are on a road trip in California, I’m using Yelp to find good places to eat nearby. That’s why we stopped in Winters on our way to Lassen Volcanic National Park this summer. We came from the South on Winters Road and entered the town over the new Putah Creek bridge. We […]
road trip : an extended trip in a motor vehicle We LOVE road trips. Our preferred motor vehicle is a sleep-in van, right now it is an old, but still somewhat reliable Eurovan. We’d love to buy a newer model but unfortunately, Volkswagen doesn’t sell the model of my dreams in the US, such a […]
I could take hundreds of pictures of this bridge. The red gate to this beloved city. The golden portal to the state I’m so blessed to live in. It’s beautiful even when it’s foggy. And I love how the edge of the café’s roof meets the bridge, trying to match its color. via Photo Challenge: […]
Glass Beach, Fort Bragg The second last stop on our road trip in June was this famous beach in Northern California. According to Wikipedia, Glass Beach is part of the Mac Kerricher State Park, but apparently it is also part of the Noyo Headlands Park . Anyway, it is a great place to walk and explore […]
Fern Canyon, Humboldt County My family and I visited this magical place in June while doing a road trip through Northern California and Oregon. We camped in Patricks Point State Park, about 25 miles south of the canyon and I rode my bike all the way up. It is not easy to get here, but it […]
Garfield Peak Trail, Crater Lake I can’t believe that the summer is almost over. Nine weeks full of fun adventures have flown by way too fast. I’ve been busy visiting family and friends and have been too lazy with the blogging! Now it’s time to catch up on sharing my adventures and experiences I’ve made over the […]
Plan ahead. Book your flights well in advance. Different people have different strategies though. I personally prefer to book my flights at least three months in advance since we have to travel in the busy summertime. But it is definitely worth to watch the prices for a while. This year I could have saved $ […]
Time with friends I’m visiting my home country of Germany right now and it’s always lovely to be here. Despite the fact that it’s often quite challenging to deal appropriately with all the expectations of family and friends, I mostly enjoy being home, visiting familiar places and seeing loved ones. There are some times when I’m exhausted […]
Last Sunday I flew from San Jose, California to Düsseldorf, Germany and had a layover in Heathrow. Usually I don’t really pay much attention to airport terminal design, but despite all bad predictions, we managed to get our connection to Düsseldorf in time. First, because my girls and I ran all the way from the […]
family travel blogs Ok, so traveling is one of my biggest passions. If I could afford it, I’d go on a trip every month! I am by far not a frequent flyer, but last year I flew about 36.000 miles which I realize is once around the world, yay! Even though I absolutely loved the few […]

Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
