My weekly ramble no. 31 On the last day of our 3-week Christmas visit at home, I finally got to take a short walk through my hometown, Monheim am Rhein. It was one of the few times, when it was still bright and did not rain. I walked about 2 miles in total and took […]
My weekly ramble No. 30 Finally I get to share more of my happy place with you. Hopfen am See (Hopfen-by-the-lake) is a little lakeside village that belongs to Füssen. It’s located in the state of Bavaria and the Southeast of the Allgäu. Most people probably know Neuschwanstein, the castle that served as a model for the […]
Places in California, and things with R So, I’m finally continuing the series “My A to Z of California”. My goal is to post 25 (leaving out X) posts about all my favorite things and places in California. Rain is always a topic to discuss. Usually there’s not enough. First and foremost, California has been […]
A camping weekend in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park was the last adventure of our summer break. It took us about 3 hours too long to get there, because you know, Bay Area traffic sucks. It sucks in general and even more on a Friday afternoon. Nevertheless it was worth it as Camping in California […]
Places in California, and things This is a new post in my series “My A to Z of California”. It seems now I finished this post, that everything important in California starts with an S. San Jose The first one of the list of places in California with a S has to be the city […]
The Hollywood Sign is a must see. Last Wednesday I fulfilled myself a long-sighted dream: My girls and I hiked up to the Hollywood Sign. To be precise, behind the Hollywood Sign. We stayed in LA for four days and after visiting Universal Studios on Tuesday, it was time for some nature and quietness. And the […]
Do you like to make a plan? I am a planner. I love making plans. Especially planning our next trip. A good friend recently said that I was not happy, if I wouldn’t have the next adventure lined up. I cannot contradict. Having a plan is in my nature. Writing a to-do, grocery or packing […]
I am not a cat person. I’m a dog lover. Always wanted a dog, still don’t have one. Our rental doesn’t allow pets other than fish, hamster and chickens, which we all have. Anyway, last week we spent four nights in a rustic cabin outside of Boulder, Colorado. This trip was kind of spontaneous and […]
Bay Area Summer Activities 2017 We’ve been living in the Bay Area for the last nine years and it’s only our second summer in which we are not going home to Germany. That’s why I made lots of plans what to do and already posted the list about 55 summer activities. Most of these things […]
Aloha to the Valley Island Our second visit in Maui last week was kind of a coincidence. I booked flights to Kaua’i for my husband and me in February (It was his birthday surprise and I’m a pretty awesome wife!?) and with a layover in Maui the flights were just much cheaper! Just back in March I […]
Words of the day
Tell me, what you will do with your one wild and precious life?
— Mary Oliver
I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
