Best of January – I haven’t really been consistent with my Three Word Thursdays, but I vow to improve. It is February and I’m glad that January 2017 is over. It was the worst January of the decade and we all know why. But now it’s over and I don’t only want to only remember the shitty […]
The last day…. of Barack Obama’s presidency is today. I’m so sad. This country has become my second home and even though I don’t love everything about the US (neither do I about Germany), this president and his family has become a part of my home here and my heart.
Articles about Repatriation The topic of repatriating is very close to my heart since we are actively thinking about moving back to Germany. But what is the best way to do it? So, the last couple weeks I’ve been researching, reading and writing about the topic a lot. There are a number of articles I found, and I’m also looking […]
Collaboration with Expatmamas A few weeks ago I got a “new like” on one of my posts on facebook. Jonna from “Expatmamas” found my blog and since then we started connecting. I joined her facebook group and found other German women living the expat life and some of them are sharing their stories on a blog, too. […]
An acrostic poem Telling each other what we’re thankful for is something that we started in our first year in the US. It’s implemented in preschools and schools and we like this custom. It is important to talk about all the good things in your life and to be grateful. Tonight my 9-year old and I […]
A donation drive and family volunteering event in our community.
Early birthday celebrations This is gonna be a short post. I’m exhausted from the last couple days and I need to take a break from all the news and social media. I felt paralyzed all day yesterday and spend too much time following the post election commentaries. Today I went to the gym and while […]
German-American Day Today the National German-American Day is observed in the US. This German-American heritage holiday commemorates the 13 German Mennonite families from Krefeld who landed in Philadelphia. These families founded Germantown, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1683. The settlement was the first German establishment in the original thirteen American colonies. This day was originally celebrated […]
Back to school! After a long summer that wasn’t only relaxing, it is finally here: The first day of school! It should be an official holiday for parents but unfortunately the first days are not everywhere the same. They differ between states, counties and even cities. Everyone goes back to school on divergent days. Private and public schools have different […]
To my friend Blogging University, Day 4 Today I’m supposed to write a post and to identify my audience. I’m thinking about who really visits my blog and reads my posts? I’m still in an early stage of blogging I guess and I don’t really have plan where I want to go with it, but […]
Words of the day
Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
