Fern Canyon, Humboldt County My family and I visited this magical place in June while doing a road trip through Northern California and Oregon. We camped in Patricks Point State Park, about 25 miles south of the canyon and I rode my bike all the way up. It is not easy to get here, but it […]
Garfield Peak Trail, Crater Lake I can’t believe that the summer is almost over. Nine weeks full of fun adventures have flown by way too fast. I’ve been busy visiting family and friends and have been too lazy with the blogging! Now it’s time to catch up on sharing my adventures and experiences I’ve made over the […]
Water towers in Mendocino We just got back from a wonderful road trip to Northern California and Oregon, which I will probably tell you more about in the next couple weeks. On our last day we checked out Glass Beach in Fort Bragg (coming soon…) and then drove down to the town of Mendocino. I […]
A walk along 4-mile beach I have to catch up. On Father’s Day we made a trip to Santa Cruz. First we had breakfast at “Café Brasil” on Mission Street. Its’ rated the #5 place for breakfast & brunch in the area. It’s a popular and very busy place and doesn’t take reservations. Try to find a parking […]
4 hours in San Francisco Yesterday I went to the city. I should do this more often. I love being in the city. I’m a city girl. I had coffee and cinnamon toast at Trouble Coffee Co. in the Outer Sunset District. I climbed the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps that lead to the Grand View […]
John Nicholas Trail Again my ramble was not a walk and talk, but a ride & talk. In fact, it was my first mountain bike ride ever. I can hardly believe that’s true, but it is. I’ve been a recreational cyclist for a few years now, but I really never rode a mountain bike in my […]
From my front door I read the post “From my front door” last week on one of the blogs I’m following “The helpful hiker” and it totally inspired me to write a blog post about the same topic. What can you find in a 1-mile-radius of your house? Lauren herself was inspired by the April […]
wonderful wine tasting on wheels One of the best things about living in the Golden State is that there are so many beautiful places yet to discover. There are still so many areas I haven’t been and every time we visit a new part I leave it thinking: “I have to come back soon and […]
Kalalau trail, Napali Coast State Park, Kauai After 2011, this is the second time we hiked the first part of this beautiful trail along the Napali coast. The drive from Hanalei to the trailhead next to Ke’e Beach takes about 20 minutes and you get wonderful views of Hanalei Bay, Wainiha Bay and the famous […]
San Jose Downtown Part I: Museum of Art and San Pedro Square on Palm Sunday I just made a new German friend who is a docent at the San Jose Museum of Art. Yesterday she invited a bunch of friends for a private tour in German. I’ve been to this museum before and it is a really […]
Words of the day
Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
