Skateboarding in Huntington Beach Today we caught one of the rare, cloudy days in Southern California, but still had a lovely time skating along Huntington Beach. All these beach communities in Orange County have their own style and satisfy all stereotypes about California. Wide, long, sandy beaches with blue lifeguard stations, lots of surfers, people on roller skates in […]
Campbell downtown Publishing a post every day got a bit challenging this weekend. It’s hard to take the time to post something good when you’re planning and celebrating your birthday party. My post from yesterday was a bit blah. Happy birthday to me! We had a wonderful night with close friends, champagne and cake at midnight and […]
Ewoldsen Trail Julia Pfeiffer Burn State Park, Big Sur, California My husband and I were lucky to sneak away for a couple’s weekend. We went and stayed in Monterey, CA and on Saturday we drove down Highway 1. We stopped at our favorite food places, had coffee, baked goods and wine & nibbles on the way […]
Winters, CA Whenever we are on a road trip in California, I’m using Yelp to find good places to eat nearby. That’s why we stopped in Winters on our way to Lassen Volcanic National Park this summer. We came from the South on Winters Road and entered the town over the new Putah Creek bridge. We […]
Museum Insel Hombroich This was another beautiful day of my summer 2016 in Germany. I went there with my younger daughter and my sister. We had a wonderful time walking the grounds of the Museum Insel Hombroich even though it was a rainy day and we got pretty wet at the end. […]
A night and a day in the city It’s always worth to drive to San Francisco, even on a Friday afternoon when you’ll most likely hit bad traffic. I went with my three very good German friends and we had a wonderful time – 24 hours without kids, just for ourselves. We started with some yummy […]
Anne & Mark’s Art Party 2016 Yesterday my husband and I went to the Opening Gala of this incredible event here in San Jose. It was the first time we went and I’m so happy we did. In this valley we live in – renowned for its creativity – it’s not always easy to find […]
Berlin – I love you I went to Berlin end of July with three girlfriends. These were probably the best four days of my entire stay in Germany. And not only because I could do two of my favorite things in the world: traveling and spending time with the ones I love, but because I’m in […]
Glass Beach, Fort Bragg The second last stop on our road trip in June was this famous beach in Northern California. According to Wikipedia, Glass Beach is part of the Mac Kerricher State Park, but apparently it is also part of the Noyo Headlands Park . Anyway, it is a great place to walk and explore […]
Fern Canyon, Humboldt County My family and I visited this magical place in June while doing a road trip through Northern California and Oregon. We camped in Patricks Point State Park, about 25 miles south of the canyon and I rode my bike all the way up. It is not easy to get here, but it […]

Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
