Three Word Thursday #24 Yesterday I found an interesting facebook post in a group of “Germans in San Francisco and the Bay Area”. Someone posted the question: “Are here any Germans who came to came “for ever” but eventually moved back home anyway? Which reasons have convinced you in the end? My husband and I […]
Three Word Thursday #23 Here’s my random ranting on this beautiful Thursday. I don’t even know where to start. Yes, I do. ξ First of all, I want to apologize to all my subscribers and facebook followers. I had to change my blog theme and after I uploaded the new demo, it send out all the sample […]
My weekly ramble #28 This morning I met up with three women from my meetup group. We went hiking in Los Gatos and had lunch at the Purple Onion Café after. Jo and her Monday walks have inspired me to end or start the week with a hike. That is why I’ve been trying to […]
Three Word Thursday #22 My weekly wool gathering is again linked up with Amanda’s Running with Spoons. Hop over and check out other interesting arbitrary ideas. ξ There was an earthquake on Monday 6pm PST and we didn’t feel it. That happened before, but I’m starting to get a bit nervous. I’m […]
German Apple Crumble Cheesecake Today I’d like to share one of my favorite cake recipes with you. It was passed on to me by my mom and it’s become kind of legendary in our family. It’s easy and the cake is delicious. And if you like cheesecake and apples, you definitely have to try it. […]
Help for Puerto Rico I absolutely love Instagram and the way it connects me with people all around the world. Like with Tina, a German teacher, a mom of four and sewing queen, who lives in California, too. Last week she posted a picture that inspired me to follow her lead and to give to “Bags […]
Repatriation means the return of someone to their own country. As part of my series “Repatriate Interviews” I talked to Tina Busch, a German writer, translator and mother of two. After living the expat life in the US for several years, she her family moved back to Germany last year. Now the time of repatriation […]

Words of the day
Tell me, what you will do with your one wild and precious life?
— Mary Oliver
I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
