My weekly ramble #29 If you read my post Q is for… (weekly ramble #26) you know that this was my second attempt to hike up Mount Umunhum. This time we found a parking spot and successfully hiked the 8.2. mile loop up and back down the legendary summit. It was perfect hiking […]
The Hollywood Sign is a must see. Last Wednesday I fulfilled myself a long-sighted dream: My girls and I hiked up to the Hollywood Sign. To be precise, behind the Hollywood Sign. We stayed in LA for four days and after visiting Universal Studios on Tuesday, it was time for some nature and quietness. And the […]
Another month has passed and here are my highlights of April 2017. 1. Two beautiful wildflower hikes, one with my family and one with a dear friend. You can read more here on my weekly rambles “Russian Ridge” and “Calero County Park”.
I’ve had the ultimate German grocery shopping experience today! The first time in more than eight years and I got to shop “ALDI” in California. OMG! I was in heaven.
…is the best tradition in our neigborhood! We have a very lovable family on our street and Bonnie is the head coach of six great, funny and polite children! She is an inspiration for every mom out there. Her children are between 2 and 14 years old and I can’t even imagine how she juggles her everyday life and stays sane. […]
Last month I blogged about the utility art boxes I found around Campbell and San Jose, California. This public beautification program “Art Outside the Box” is designed to transform plain, grey traffic control utility boxes in Campbell, into works of art, creative a more vibrant cityscape. The program was launched in 2015, with 11 boxes […]

wonderful wine tasting on wheels One of the best things about living in the Golden State is that there are so many beautiful places yet to discover. There are still so many areas I haven’t been and every time we visit a new part I leave it thinking: “I have to come back soon and […]

Little free libraries While walking or running through our neighborhood, I started noticing these little cute boxes or cabinets or whatever you want to call them about half a year ago. Most of them are standing in front of private residences, a few are adjacent to an office or other kind of business. The concept […]

I’m Kathrin, a German who’s been living the last 9 years in the crazy world of Silicon Valley. Even though I love our life in California, I’m still missing Köln (Cologne) and the German lifestyle a lot. On this blog I share some of my stories and ruminate about what home really means. I’m a mother of two girls and the wife of an iSlave, a teacher, a social introvert and very passionate about the things I do.
I’m glad you’re here! Schön, dass du hier bist!
