55 summer activities

Summer is here! No school for nine and a half weeks. Wahoo! This summer we are not going to Germany. Our family vacation is a trip to Colorado in July and our girls go to a sleep away camp for one week.  They have their usual gym & swim practices, but other than that, we haven’t planned any summer activities. If you know me, you’d be surprised, because I love making plans.

That being said, this summer of 2017 is supposed to be wild, free and spontaneous. Lots of time for fun summer activities. We made a list of things we want to do. (Yay, I can’t really function without a list.) Maybe there’s something for you on this list, too. Have a great summer! ☀️

  1. Create a family arts project.
  2. Have a water balloon fight.
  3. Go ziplining.
  4. Go to a friend’s house and have 3 sleepovers in a row.
  5. Watch a movie under the stars.
  6. Build a DIY obstacle course.
  7. Be a vegetarian for a week.
  8. Throw a brunch party.
  9. Go to Raging Waters/Great America.
  10. Play at the park.
  11. Make dinner together.
  12. Go stargazing at the observatory.
  13. Go surfing in Santa Cruz.
  14. Make a book with Book Creator.
  15. Go to the neighborhood pool.
  16. Learn and practice a new skill.
  17. Make s’mores in the fire pit.
  18. Clean up your room.
  19. Go to the drive-in movies.
  20. Make a scrapbook.
  21. Paint each other’s faces.
  22. Have breakfast 3 times a day.*
  23. Go to the beach.
  24. Have a cannonball contest.
  25. Go to the library and join the summer reading program.
  26. Make an iMovie and share it with your friends.
  27. Have a device-free day once a week. No phones or tablets for anyone!
  28. Meet mom/dad for lunch at work.
  29. Set a tent in your backyard and “go camping”.
  30. Paint the chicken coop. Or paint something else.
  31. Visit a museum you’ve never been to.
  32. Watch all “Back to the Future” movies.
  33. Write postcards to all your friends & family.
  34. Go to a flea market.
  35. Pick up dad from work and have a family picnic.
  36. Go for a hike.
  37. Read German books and watch German movies.
  38. Ride your bike to get ice cream, or frozen yogurt, or donuts. Or just ride your bike.
  39. Have a lemonade stand on your street.
  40. Watch the sunset. Or the sunrise. Or both.
  41. DIY Spa day (mani/pedi, face mask,…)
  42. Volunteer at the local food bank.
  43. Have an outdoor painting party using huge canvases, cardboards or your bodies.
  44. Go to a farmer’s market.
  45. Have a fondue night: meat, cheese & chocolate!
  46. Go somewhere on the train.
  47. Gather all your “dress up” stuff and have a photo booth.
  48. Plan a meal, shop for all ingredients and cook for your whole family.
  49. Make a playlist together and have a dance party.
  50. Bake cookies for your neighbors.
  51. Go bowling.
  52. Have a family game night.
  53. Jump in the pool once a day.
  54. Clear out your closet and bring some clothes to the local Goodwill store.
  55. Stay in your pajamas all day.
